ICILS

The International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS) is an international assessment measuring international differences in students’ computer and information literacy (CIL): their ability to use computers to investigate, create, participate, and communicate. Countries also have an option to complete an assessment of computational thinking (CT). ICILS deals with core knowledge and skills, and the understanding of students’ needs to succeed in this dynamic information environment.

The ICILS study has been conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) in 2013, 2018, and 2023.  Malta participated for the first time in ICILS 2023, where it analysed the CIL and CT skills of Year 9 students. Results for ICILS 2023 were published in November 2024. Malta will also be taking part in the next study cycle, ICILS 2028.
